Nothing like summer tunes to make you whole again.  Do you agree?  And with summer tunes are  images of road trips, family reunions, picnics and the beach.  It’s impossible not to associate summer with music.  So what’s your summer song?  Mine is the Ocean by Led Zeppelin with the fantastic guitar playing of no other than Jimmy Page.  It makes me wonder what type of guitar he  used to play with.  Was it peavey cirrus because he’d never use low quality guitars?  Anyway, summer’s just around the corner and I can’t imagine anything better than Ocean blasting in my car with my hair loose, the warm air blowing in my face, and the promise of a spectacular view of sun, sand and the blue sky.

I can’t wait for summer.

Truth be told I had some really grand plans for the weekend.  Well, life got in the way or more like laziness got in the way.  I’ve never been known to follow plans, anyway.  So what the heck.  I’ll do what I feel like doing at the moment which is to finish the two books I’ve been meaning to read two days ago.  I’m the last book of the Hunger Games series and I can’t wait to know what happens to Peeta, Gale and Katniss.  I would love for Katniss to end up with Peeta.  I don’t know.  I love Peeta’s character more.  Katniss is one lucky girl no matter who she ends up with.  I hope not in the hands of President Snow as that would be most tragic ending.  Perhaps after reading the two books, I would need to have my eyes checked.  With all the reading and staying in front of the computer, my eyes deserve a pair of designer reading glasses.

So this little girl is sick.  She has mouth sore or what we call here in Manila, a SINGAW.  That’s the reason why she has not been talking for the past couple of days.  I thought it was toothache again but when I inspected her mouth, I saw that there was a lesion on her right inside cheek.  It was a very hot weekend which might be the cause of the singaw.

She stayed home today and did not go to school.  How can she even participate in school activities when she can’t even speak?  It’s better that she stays home than feel miserable in school.

But kids are so funny.  Like yesterday, she was feeling under the weather with the singaw and all but when we had lunch at Flaming Wings, she didn’t eat her chicken and rice but she ate Wicked Oreos all by herself and didn’t even share.

Well, I can’t blame her coz this is really so good.

Yeah, that’s the word I was looking for.  Whew!  This has been a very busy week.  I need some R&R this weekend.  It had been all about MG this week and I’m in need of ME time ASAP.  Notice the acronyms?  That’s how tired I am that I can’t even type the whole words.

How was your week?  Busy, I bet.  I envy you if you answered differently.  Mine was all about, projects, assignments, long tests and quizzes. I never realized Grade 1 could be so demanding.  I remembered having fun during my first grade.  MG’s school load is crazy.  The weekend is not even enough to recuperate from the flurry of school activities my 7 year old and have to contend with 5 times a week.

So this weekend, there’d be no lessons, no notebooks and pencils and no PANTIGIN and Rehiyon.  NO, no, no.  I’d postpone helping her with weekend assignments until the last hour before we go to sleep on Sunday.  That’s it.  Just one hour to school and 47 hours of R&R.

I have definitely mistaken today’s weather as being cloudy and overcast so I didn’t take a bath going to the supermarket this morning. Normally I would take a bath in the evening when it gets too hot in the afternoon and since it was so hot the whole day yesterday, I took the necessary bath. So I was still clean and fresh before heading and driving to the grocery. I looked like a million bucks so to speak, not that I Sell Gold or jewelry.  I actually looked and smelled good.

But after an hour or so, it got too hot even inside the grocery.  There were just too many people and it was getting close to lunchtime. My face was oily and my shirt was beginning to stick to my back.  It was so uncomfortable.  And you know me, I hate staying long for anything.  I needed to rush back home.  So I paid for my items at the counter and off I went.  I made a U-turn just in front of the supermarket and two traffic enforcers were flagging me down.  I saw that they didn’t have a motorcycle with them so I sped by Katipunan Avenue like a maniac.

I got home in one piece and took a bath.  Lesson learned….Always take a shower before heading out.

I’d like to live here.  I love this particular building along Liang Seah Street in Singapore.  It has an Indian restaurant downstairs and perhaps, the owner lives on the second floor.  The whole street has an old world charm.  I would love to go back and walk the street again.

Happy Weekend!

Wherever you all may be!

Lets get two things straight:  weekend is always with family and I do not like Mondays.  What’s to love about the weekends?  For one, there is always Saturday lunch with family whether it’s lunch out or home-cooked meal.  Yesterday, we decided it was lunch out.  It was so hot to cook anyway.

So we got dressed, got in the car and drove a short distance to UNO restaurant.  We were early so we got the full attention of the staff which was nice because they explained the menu from the duck to the lamb and the salad.  Vegetables come from Tagaytay and always fresh.  I forgot to ask if they get lettuce grown using hydroponics. Reminder to self: ask this next time.

Why I don’t like Mondays?  Because they’re not the weekends.  As simple as that.

The first and the only Sunday Market I’ve gone to so far.  For one it’s very near our place.  Second, it’s very near our place.  Yep, that’s the only reason.  I’ve been planning to go to Salcedo Weekend Market and Mercato Centrale but both are located just 10,000 miles from our place.  Ok, that’s an exaggeration.  The thing about Weekend Markets is you have to be there early.  Otherwise, you won’t enjoy shopping and trying out the food.  They are not air-conditioned and it gets too hot around 10am.  Who would want to eat and shop around under the extreme  heat of the summer sun?  Aside from that, we get up a little late than usual because it’s the weekend.  It’s nice to sleep a little longer and sleep late prior.

But there are some good finds at SIDCOR.  I always go to Mary’s Kitchen for the pasta and Chicken Cordon Bleu.  There are also a lot of concessionaires selling Filipino food so I almost always bring home Laing, Kuhol and Maalat na Itlog whenever I go there.  There are organic goods too such as juices, vegetables, breads and coffee.

Our last visit there was in February and it felt like we were on the beach or something.  It was so unbearably hot.  It was clear from this picture below that she was not enjoying this at all.

Yesterday was Mother’s Day.  My son woke up early and greeted me quite awkwardly.  Then second the motion my daughter who thought Mother’s Day was a place we all should go to.  She kept saying, “Kelan tayo punta sa Mother’s Day.”  I kept explaining to her that mother’s day was a day just like Monday or any day of the week, that it was not a place.  But no matter how hard I tried to change her mind about the concept of Mother’s Day, she won’t accept it.  She just won’t although I knew she understood.

Anyway, my son told me he’d treat us to dinner.  That was his gift to me.  He asked me where I wanted to eat.  So I told him.  He said he couldn’t afford it with his 2000 pesos of a budget.  So I said, “Anywhere is fine as long as it’s not pizza or pasta.”  So we ended eating at Sweet Inspiration, a bakeshop that serves Mongolian Barbeque Buffet daily.

It was raining so we left early because we figured that there’d be traffic but when we got there only a few tables were occupied.  It was a good day.  My son who seldom shows or even says his feelings was thoughtful enough to treat me.  I know how much money he has so this treat would certainly take a huge chunk of his savings but he spent for dinner anyway.

He is a good son.  Doesn’t drink.  Doesn’t smoke.  Never fancied night outs or out-of-town trips with friends.  Never gave me a problem with regards to school or even anything.  In fact, he’s even in the Dean’s List and is running for Cum Laude.  My son.  My exact opposite.  Thank goodness.
